Our Community

Dignity Houston is radically inclusive community of support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender/Queer Catholics and allies in Houston from all walks of life who have a passion and commitment for spiritual development, education, social justice, equality, and friendship.

Our aim is to provide a sacred space where LGBT Catholics can connect and support each other along the faith journey as we seek to understand and deepen our relationship with Jesus and each other in a manner that affirms our wholeness and holiness, which includes the goodness of our sexual orientations and gender identities.

Some LGBT Catholics may already be connected to a parish where they feel welcome and accepted; for them, Dignity can be an extra source of support and social connection, with the added bonus of providing an opportunity for dialogue from a queer perspective. We recognize that other LGBT Catholics feel spiritually disconnected, displaced, and disillusioned with the Catholic Church, and Dignity can offer a faith community where they can participate in eucharistic liturgy and where they can legitimately bring their questions, doubts, and past experiences of pain to the table. Hopefully this can be a starting point for healing, growth, and reconciliation.

For everyone, this group offers a means of "doing life together" through inclusive fellowship, thought-provoking conversation, socializing, and community service. In the long run, we hope we can be a way of reclaiming and even reforming the Catholic Church to be inclusive and welcoming for all. We are living proof that God does not make mistakes!

Let us bring the gifts that differ
And, in splendid, varied ways,
Sing a new church into being,
One of faith and love and praise
